The Times Higher Education 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ Rankings 2021 use the same 13 performance indicators as the THE World 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ Rankings, but they are recalibrated to reflect the attributes of 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ¡¯s institutions.

The universities are judged across all their core missions ¨C teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook ¨C to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons available.

China is home to the continent¡¯s top two universities for the second consecutive year, with Tsinghua and Peking universities holding on to first and second place, respectively.

Meanwhile, Japan is the most-represented nation again this year, with 116 institutions, up from 110 last year. Japan has also achieved its best performance in the ranking in six years; it is home to two of the top?10 universities in 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ for the first time since?2015.

Elsewhere, Israel is home to the top institution outside East and South-east 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ, but most institutions in the country have declined.

Iran has a new top institution, Kurdistan 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Medical Sciences, which is included in the table for the first time this year. At 45th?place, it is the highest-ranked new entry in the?list.

The 2021 ranking includes 551 universities from 30?territories.
