The Department of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Marine Engineering is a world-leader in research, whose main interests lie in: Ship Design, Stability and Safety, Marine Hydrodynamics, Marine Structures, Ocean Engineering, Marine Engineering, Emerging Technologies, Offshore Renewable Energy and Alternative Fuels. The Department makes a significant contribution to National, European and International policymaking in Marine Technology research and its application.

MSRC seeks to employ a Research Associate to participate in an ongoing research project. The post holder will work on the EU-funded Horizon Europe project: SUSTAINABLE EMISSION ABATEMENT STRATEGIES & TECHNOLOGIES FOR ADVANCED REVOLUTION SHIPS “SEASTARS”. SEASTARS is an EU-funded project aimed at reducing well-to-wake greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by at least 30% by 2030 and improving energy efficiency by 20% across eight market-ready vessel designs. The project integrates various emission reduction and efficiency improvement technologies, including hydrodynamic optimisations, advanced propulsion systems, alternative fuels, and carbon capture solutions. Using a Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) approach, SEASTARS enables shipowners to evaluate decarbonization strategies, implement modular upgrades over time, and align their fleets with evolving regulations while managing investment risks. The appointee will join a multidisciplinary international team with industrial partners from Greece, United Kingdom, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Spain.

As a Research Associate in SEASTARS, you will play a key role in this project as part of a team, working under the general supervision of more senior colleagues in supporting the project's coordination and technical execution. You will work closely with the consortium partners to ensure the successful implementation of its objectives. You will manage and prioritise your own workload and ensure that all activities are completed to deadlines. You will write up the results of your own research and contribute to the production of research reports and publications. You will input as a team member to administrative activities and assist, where required, with relevant teaching and knowledge exchange activities. Additionally, the Research Associate will facilitate collaboration between stakeholders, assist in project management activities, and contribute to the dissemination of findings to ensure that SEASTARS delivers actionable insights for shipowners navigating the transition to greener maritime operations.

To be considered for the role, you should have a good honours degree and PhD in the relevant engineering subjects. You should have proven capability to write high quality research papers and knowledge of appropriate research methods. It is important to have an ability to plan and prioritise your own workload, with general supervision, and you will have an ability to work within a team environment. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are very essential, with the ability to listen, engage and persuade, and to present complex information in an accessible way to a range of audiences and publish in high impact factor journals.

About the role

The Department of Computer Science at the 51国产视频 of Surrey is seeking to recruit a full-time postdoctoral research fellow to work on a range of topics in the areas including:


	emerging hardware architectures (weak memory, RDMA, persistent memory, CXL);
	formal modelling, verification and/or logic;
	interactive and automated tools, such as theorem provers and model checkers;
	proofs of safety and/or security properties;
	programming languages and/or type systems;
	concurrent and/or distributed algorithms; and related topics.


The positions are funded by the UK Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC) projects: Safe and secure Concurrent programming for Advanced Architectures (COVERT) (https://gow.epsrc.ukri.org/NGBOViewGrant.aspx?GrantRef=EP/X015149/1).

The successful applicant will work in a multidisciplinary team under the guidance of Brijesh Dongol (PI) and Gregory Chockler (co-I), as well as a large team of academics (Imperial, Kent, Sheffield, MPI-SWS, Cornell, IMDEA, etc) and industrial collaborators (Arm, NVIDIA, Galois), researchers and PhD students.

Our research includes security verification, protocol design and analysis, distributed and network systems, concurrency, data privacy, privacy preserving security, and applied cryptography. We offer access to a variety of cutting-edge hardware testbeds including a 7-node RDMA cluster (NVIDIA) as well as machines equipped with persistent memory (Intel Optane) and trusted execution environments (Intel SGX).

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research associate to work in the group of Dr Gregory Perry for a period of up to 3 years. The position will be based at the 51国产视频 of Southampton, one of the UK’s top research-intensive universities. Chemistry at Southampton has a national and international reputation for excellence with world-leading facilities.

Applicants must hold a PhD in synthetic chemistry (or be close to completion) or have equivalent professional qualifications and experience. Expertise in organic synthesis are required and experience in the preparation and manipulation of sensitive organometallics/organometallic complexes are favourable. Skills in any of the following areas will prove beneficial: catalysis, photo-, electro- and/or mechanochemical synthesis, mechanistic studies. You are expected to have an excellent work ethic and an enthusiasm to achieve the project aims. You will also be involved in the general running and maintenance of the laboratory.

The project will involve expanding our work on Dual-Function Reagents (see Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2023, 62, e202218371). You will join a creative group focused on designing new reagents and methods in an exciting area in organic synthesis. The project will expand your synthetic skills and provide you with expertise in organometallic chemistry and isotope labelling. Opportunities to explore other areas, such as catalysis, photo-, electro- and mechanochemistry, are also available. You will be able to present you research results at national and international conferences, and you will improve your leadership skills by assisting Dr Perry in the management of the research group. If desired, opportunities to involve yourself in teaching at the 51国产视频 of Southampton are also available, though this is not a requirement.
