National Taichung 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Science and Technology began as two separate universities: the National Taichung Institute of Technology and the National Taichung Nursing College. They merged in 2011 to form the National Taichung 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Science and Technology.

The university is located in Taichung, central Taiwan.

There are six colleges within the university: college of commerce, college of design, college of information and distribution service, college of language, college of health, and the college of intelligence. Each college is divided into different departments, which offer courses at both undergraduate and graduate degree level.

The university organises its teaching into five school systems: day school, night division, continuing education, long distance learning, and senior commercial school of continuing education.

The Office of Student Affairs organises a variety of events and workshops throughout the year that contribute to the personal development of every student. The office also oversees the numerous extracurricular clubs that are offered by the university.

The university has established partnerships with several higher education institutions across the globe such as the 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Victoria in Canada, De Montfort 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ in the UK, and Hebei 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ in China.
