Originally known as the Gujranwala Institute of Future Technologies, GIFT 51国产视频 was founded in 2002, because there was felt to be a need for a university in the region between Lahore and Islamabad.
There are four academic schools at GIFT 51国产视频: engineering and applied sciences; humanities and social sciences; fine arts, design and architecture; and business. Each school has specialist facilities, so that degree courses can include relevant practical experience.
Since 2012, roughly half of the university’s students have received a performance-based scholarship.
Campus extracurricular activities include public-speaking, drama, sports, music, poetry recitation and recreational trips. Clubs range from the society for home-economics skills to the yoga health society, the young economists society and the blood-donors society.
GIFT also runs a social-integration programme, intended to ensure that graduates leave with strong social and ethical values.

?The Department of Informatics is a vibrant research environment covering a wide spectrum of computer science and adjoining topics.

Research in the department is investigating ways to improve the debugging capabilities of modern compiler toolchains. This role will contribute to the investigation and development of? novel techniques for these, in the context of modern production toolchains such as LLVM.

About The Role

Research in the department is investigating ways to improve the debugging, introspection and crash triage capabilities of modern compiler toolchains and native code runtimes. This role will contribute to the investigation and development of novel techniques for these in the context of modern production toolchains such as LLVM. The successful candidate will work closely with the Principal Investigator, Dr Stephen Kell. Funding for the project comes from DARPA's EBOSS programme via a contract with Galois, Inc, and the work involves collaborative element with Galois researchers and engineers.

This post is funded for 9 months in the first instance, with extensions a likely possibility.

This is a part-time post (0.4 FTE, 14 Hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 7th June 2026.

	First-class honours degree in computer science
	Strong understanding of compiler toolchains and related technology
	Good working knowledge of debugging technology
	Experience in relevant research areas (programming languages, systems, software engineering or similar)
	Excellent verbal and written communication skills

About the role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join the Microscopy Innovation Centre (MIC) as an Optical Microscopy Specialist / Deputy Manager. This position plays a central role in maintaining the technical excellence of the facility and driving innovation and development in advanced optical microscopy. You will support a wide range of imaging applications by ensuring the Centre’s high-end commercial systems and bespoke in-house development platforms remain at the forefront of current technology. This includes providing expert advice, hands-on technical support, and training to researchers, as well as contributing to the design and implementation of novel imaging solutions in collaboration with academic groups.

You will work closely with the Facility Manager to support the day-to-day operations of the Centre and contribute to its strategic planning and future development. This will involve helping shape service provision, identifying emerging technologies and opportunities, and enhancing the facility’s engagement with its user base. You will also contribute to long-term goals around sustainability, innovation, and collaborative growth within the research community.

The role requires a strong background in optical microscopy or a related field, with experience developing and using advanced imaging systems. A solutions-oriented mindset, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment are essential.

This is a full-time post (35 hours per week) based at the Guy’s Campus, and you will be offered an indefinite ?contract.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria


	Post-graduate degree, preferably in physics, life-sciences or other relevant disciplines. PhD qualified in relevant subject area.
	Extensive hands-on expertise in a wide range of advanced optical microscopy techniques for biological research, such as confocal, FLIM/FRET, multi-photon and super-resolution imaging.
	Good track-record of high-impact work within development of optical microscopy systems, and a strong foundation within fundamental optics and optical design.
	Knowledge/familiarity with different biological sample types as well as sample preparation techniques such as fluorescence labelling strategies and clearing/expansion techniques.
	Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with a variety of researchers in a collaborative environment. Demonstrated ability to train users of different levels on microscopy instrumentation and concepts.
	Good track record of contributing to technology development or innovation in microscopy or a related technical field as well as troubleshooting and maintaining complex optical systems.
	Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with a solutions-oriented approach to complex technical challenges.
	Strong organisational, planning and multi-tasking skills, with experience coordinating technical operations or supporting service delivery.


?Desirable criteria


	Experience with Abbelight and/or Leica Stellaris systems, related workflows and sample preparation techniques, with a specific emphasis on familiarity with SMLM sample preparation and analysis and LAS X software.
	Experience programming and developing microscopy-related software tools and hardware control (Python, C, C++ etc.)
	Familiarity with emerging trends in imaging technology and a demonstrated interest in continued professional development.
	Experience working in a microscopy facility environment
