We are seeking a post-doctoral researcher to join the SPIRS project team. This role is anticipated to be a 14-month duration in the first instance. SPIRS (Studying Prison In-Reach Services) is a 2-year project led by Principal Investigator, Dr Joe Garrihy. The study will examine the user experience of ‘in-reach services’ in the Irish Prison Service (IPS). The Research Team will analyse the experiences of those in prison engaging in ‘in-reach services’ who provide essential support to people in custody. The study seeks to understand how service users approach, make sense and find meaning in their interactions with these services. The study is funded by the Irish Prison Service.

The collective centrality of in-reach services in supporting people in prison and addressing their intersecting needs is inarguable. The experiences of service users and staff throughout their engagement and outcomes are underexplored yet are essential to account for their nature and functioning. The post-doctoral researcher will work with the Research Team to address this lacuna through comprehensive analysis across multiple in-reach services. The post-doctoral researcher will achieve this through the voices of the service users and staff, in addition to other stakeholders, including prison officers, psychologists, and others.

The post-doctoral researcher will be an integral part of a mixed-methods two-year study with a Research Team led by Principal Investigator, Dr Garrihy, and a Research Assistant. The post-doctoral researcher will undertake empirical participant fieldwork, mixed methods data collection and analysis with associated writing up informed by the relevant literature. The post-doctoral researcher will also support the Principal Investigator in carrying out other tasks related to the project.

The post offers the researcher the opportunity to join a dynamic, well-supported multi-disciplinary team within the research-intensive School of Law and Criminology – the largest criminology team in Ireland - while developing their professional and intellectual skillsets, publication record, lecturing experience and network.

Salary

Post-Doctoral Researcher Level 1 (2025): €45,847 p.a. (1 point - with increment)

Remuneration

A taxable annual remuneration starting from MOP1,052,800 (approximately USD129,980) for the position of Associate Professor and MOP855,400 (approximately USD105,600) for the position of Assistant Professor will be commensurate with the successful applicants’ academic qualification and relevant professional experience. The current local maximum income tax rate is 12% but is effectively around 5% – 7% after various discretionary exemptions. Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT)

A Research Technician position is available in the Centre for Cancer Immunology at Southampton General Hospital. This is a newly constructed, dedicated research building that is the result of a significant fund-raising campaign. It builds on a 40 year history of pioneering immunology and cancer research at Southampton, and represents the first dedicated cancer immunology centre in the UK. The activities in this centre span from pioneering discovery science to applied research and preclinical modelling and, crucially, onto first-in-human clinical trials and beyond. The centre houses world-class research facilities, including state-of-the-art scientific laboratories and a clinical trials unit.

The position is associated with the laboratory of Professors Ward and Ober. Their interdisciplinary research program is dedicated to the development of novel antibody-based therapeutics for the treatment of cancer and autoimmunity. This research has led to several therapeutics that are currently in advanced clinical trials or approved for clinical use. The group also develops advanced microscopy techniques for the evaluation of novel therapeutics in cellular environments. Their research is supported by major grants from the Welcome Trust, Cancer Research UK and support from collaborating biopharma companies.

The appointee will be highly motivated and excited by the challenges involved in supporting a dynamic, interdisciplinary group of researchers. The appointee’s role will be to provide support with the day-to-day running of the laboratory by providing technical support for the experimental work of post-doctoral fellows, research scientists and graduate students, combined with the ordering and maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and supplies. The position holder will be expected to be familiar with biosafety and other regulatory processes and follow these procedures as necessary.?

It is essential to have a skill level equivalent to achievement of HNC, A-Level, NVQ3 with proven work experience acquired in relevant technical support roles and job-related training.
