The Sensor Enabled Research & Control Hub (SEARCH) at the 51国产视频 of Strathclyde are seeking to recruit a Research Fellow to develop, manage and coordinate R&D activities focused on in-process inspection of fusion welding and additive manufacturing operations within large multi-partner collaborative research projects.

You will lead and be responsible for aspects related to enhancing the in-process inspection, imaging and defect detection/interpretation in weld manufacturing in-process inspections. You will be motivated by the aim of acquiring, interpreting and reporting scientific in-process inspection results to the supervision team, industrial stakeholders, and the overall project team.??You will be motivated in translating such innovations onto industrial partner sites and factories, engaging with the partners to ensure successful trialling and optimisation. Scientific publication and dissemination of results will be required, through both academic journals and conferences.

Daily activities within the role will include one or more of the following depending on skills and experiences:


	Research in high-temperature phased array ultrasonics
	?In-process phased array ultrasonic imaging during fusion welding
	?Signal processing, ultrasonic calibration, automated data and defect interpretation/sentencing
	?Translation of in-process inspection innovations to industrial partner sites and shopfloors.


To be considered for the role, you will have a good honours degree and PhD / higher degree (or equivalent professional experience) in appropriate discipline. (e.g. mechanical & electrical engineering, physics, automation); or have equivalent relevant experience in addition to a relevant Degree. You will have an ability to conduct individual research work, manage and supervise other researchers, disseminate results and be responsible for acquisition of funding (as PI/Co-I). You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to listen, engage and persuade and to present complex information in an accessible way to a range of audiences, and you will have the ability to work as part of a team, integrating with existing research team members and collaborating effectively with both academic and industrial partners.

The Research Fellow will be required to travel to partner sites for technical meetings and project demonstrations on a regular basis and, as such, applicants must be willing and able to travel. Applications from candidates with a valid UK driving licence are therefore desirable.

While the initial post is for an initial 12-month period, the project is part of a much larger body of work and as such it is anticipated that continued employment would continue past this initial phase based on satisfactory performance.

*Whilst Research Fellows are sought for these positions, applications from candidates at Research Associate level may also be considered. Dependent on the profile and experience of the candidate the appointment may be made at a lower level (RS07 salary scale ?37,174 - ?45,413) and duties will be adjusted to reflect the grade of the post.

About the opportunity

About you


	extensive experience in applying technical capabilities in the field of Analytics to deliver insight and recommendations
	extensive technical skills in developing enterprise data platforms, providing significant technical training and support to analysts and developers
	proven management experience at a senior level in the supervision, training, mentoring and performance management of staff; and experience managing and resolving a diverse range of HR issues
	effective managing a diverse group of key stakeholders on large or complex projects and the ability to develop/cultivate productive relationships with industry providers and key users.

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research associate to work in the group of Dr Gregory Perry for a period of up to 3 years. The position will be based at the 51国产视频 of Southampton, one of the UK’s top research-intensive universities. Chemistry at Southampton has a national and international reputation for excellence with world-leading facilities.

Applicants must hold a PhD in synthetic chemistry (or be close to completion) or have equivalent professional qualifications and experience. Expertise in organic synthesis are required and experience in the preparation and manipulation of sensitive organometallics/organometallic complexes are favourable. Skills in any of the following areas will prove beneficial: catalysis, photo-, electro- and/or mechanochemical synthesis, mechanistic studies. You are expected to have an excellent work ethic and an enthusiasm to achieve the project aims. You will also be involved in the general running and maintenance of the laboratory.

The project will involve expanding our work on Dual-Function Reagents (see Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2023, 62, e202218371). You will join a creative group focused on designing new reagents and methods in an exciting area in organic synthesis. The project will expand your synthetic skills and provide you with expertise in organometallic chemistry and isotope labelling. Opportunities to explore other areas, such as catalysis, photo-, electro- and mechanochemistry, are also available. You will be able to present you research results at national and international conferences, and you will improve your leadership skills by assisting Dr Perry in the management of the research group. If desired, opportunities to involve yourself in teaching at the 51国产视频 of Southampton are also available, though this is not a requirement. As our research group grows, we hope you will help us maintain the friendly and supportive work environment that we have established.
