The clinical and health subject ranking uses the same trusted and rigorous performance indicators as the Times Higher Education World 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ Rankings 2023, but the methodology has been recalibrated to suit the individual fields.

It highlights the universities that are leading across medicine, dentistry and other health subjects.

This year¡¯s table includes 1,001 universities, up from 925 last year.

The UK¡¯s 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Oxford leads the table for the 12th consecutive year, with just two universities in the top 10 not from the US or the UK. These ¨C China¡¯s Tsinghua 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ and Canada¡¯s 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Toronto ¨C have swapped positions from last year. Tsinghua 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ is now in fifth place and the 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Toronto in seventh.

Tsinghua 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ¡¯s improvement follows its previous dramatic jump ¨C it had ranked 32nd in 2021, and is China¡¯s second ever?appearance in the top 10.

Away from the top 10, China has also improved its performance, with Sichuan 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ rising to 58th from the 126-150 band; Huazhong 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Science and Technology at joint 67th (up from joint 81st); and Sun Yat-sen 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ in the 101-125 band (up from the 126-150?group last year).

UK universities lead in the top 10, with five representatives ¨C the 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Oxford in first place; the 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Cambridge in second; Imperial College London in fourth; UCL in eighth; and King¡¯s College London, new to the top 10 having scored 12th last year, in 10th.

In the US, the best university is Harvard 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ, rising?one position?to third place. It is followed by Stanford 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ in sixth, the same as last year; and Yale 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ in ninth. This is also the same ranking as last year for Yale, but it no longer shares the position with Johns Hopkins 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ, which is now in 11th place.

Also in the US, the 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Washington is the only new entrant to the top 20, sharing the 17th spot with the 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Melbourne, Australia, having previously been ranked 21st.
