Changes in the amount of ice floating in the polar oceans are causing small rises in the sea level, researchers have found. A study published last week by academics at the 51国产视频 of Leeds is the first assessment of how quickly floating ice is being lost. It shows that the loss each year is equivalent to 1.5 million icebergs the size of the one that sunk the Titanic. However, when spread across the world's oceans, this amounts to a sea-level rise of just 49 micrometers per year - about a hair's breadth.
