An engineer has demonstrated how teddy bears can travel at supersonic speeds. Ray Wilkinson, principal lecturer in engineering at the 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Hertfordshire, showcased his work in rocketry as part of the CBBC television show Blast Lab. Dr Wilkinson used a composite rocket motor to set up a rocket sled, carrying a teddy bear and a slice of pizza, which was reported to have achieved speeds of 838 miles per hour. The academic and his student team have also developed a toffee-powered rocket and a sled that has reached speeds in excess of 1,200 miles per hour. His team is currently working on a dual-fuel rocket, which they say could provide technology suitable for journeys to Mars.
