* Glasgow Caledonian 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ has appealed against a tribunal ruling that it should reinstate sacked principal Stan Mason, arguing that the tribunal's lay members misdirected themselves and were unreasonable. The Glasgow tribunal ruled that Dr Mason, fired for gross misconduct in 1997, had been dismissed unfairly and should be reinstated by the end of January, potentially winning some Pounds 150,000 in back pay. The university has now argued that the two lay members had erred in seeking reinstatement for Dr Mason because they felt the statutory Pounds 12,000 compensation for unfair dismissal was not sufficient.
