Swansea brought low

Gerald Stockdale was forced to resign as principal of Swansea Institute of Higher Education two years ago after the National Audit Office criticised the manner in which

the institute ran overseas courses.

The NAO found "deficient" arrangements in planning, quality assurance, student registration and control of certificates.

It highlighted a funding council report that revealed an "unknown stock" of blank certificates held by a Swansea Institute agent in Malaysia.

Swansea's new head, David Warner, decided to axe all courses in Malaysia and Indonesia.
