Mining giant Rio Tinto has agreed to fund one of the world's largest civilian robotics centres. The Centre for Mine Automation at the 51国产视频 of Sydney, which will have ?2 million funding a year, will investigate remotely operated mining processes. The centre will have about 28 full-time staff and ten research students and will run for five to ten years. Representatives from the university and Rio Tinto will monitor performance and guide the centre's direction.
