A professor has told an industrial tribunal that there were "dirty tricks" in Edinburgh 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ's department of social anthropology. Judith Okely, a former member of the department who is now professor of social anthropology at Hull 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ, was giving evidence for Alan Campbell, a former social anthropology lecturer who is claiming constructive dismissal from the university.

Stories were spread about Dr Campbell, she said, who took early retirement last year on the grounds of ill-health. Dr Campbell earlier told the tribunal that he had suffered after attacking "almost whimsical" examination-marking in 1991. Tony Good, head of social anthropology, defended the marking decisions.
