Universities in the Northwest of England have launched an association to ensure that higher education is represented on the regional agenda.

Keith Burnley recently took up the post of executive director for the collaboration between the Bolton Institute, Liverpool John Moores 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ, 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Central Lancashire, 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Lancaster, 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Liverpool, 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Manchester, UMIST, Manchester Metropolitan 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ, the Open 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ and the 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Salford. Sir Martin Harris (below), Manchester 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ's vice-chancellor, will be chair.
