(Photograph) - New sky line: Lincoln 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ welcomes its first students this week, writes Chris Johnston. The project is the first purpose-built city-centre campus in Britain in 25 years. Public and private bodies raised the Pounds 32 million to build the campus on disused railway land in Lincolnshire.

The 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ Project Company first worked with Nottingham Trent 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ but when, after three years, it was asked to reduce the project's size it linked with Humberside to become the 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Lincoln and Humberside. The 500 students start lectures on Monday, ahead of the official opening by The Queen on October 11. More than 2,000 full-time undergraduates are expected by 2000.
