The Government is not doing enough to reduce potential risks of nanotechnology, the Council for Science and Technology has said. The CST's Nanoscience and Nanotechnologies Review , published yesterday, says the Government has spent ?600,000 annually over five years to research toxicology, health and environmental impacts of nanotechnology. This compares with ?90 million spent in 2004 alone on research into new nanoscience applications. The CST wants future government programmes supporting nanoscience to include ring-fenced money for research into risks.
