MPs want to ease the inspection burden for higher education institutions running teacher training courses. Members of the education and employment select committee called for "light touch" inspection of initial teacher training courses as part of its report into the work of Ofsted. The report, published on Monday, is critical of Ofsted and calls for greater scrutiny of its activities, including the appointment and re-appointment of the chief inspector, currently the controversial Chris Woodhead.
