Arnold Wolfendale, president of the Institute of Physics, is to chair an Office of Science and Technology committee on the public understanding of science. Iain Murray of the 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Dundee and Geoffrey Thomas, director of the department of continuing education at Oxford 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ will also be members. The committee's first task is to consult institutions about how they are helping scientists and engineers to contribute to public understanding.
