Delegates at the Tenth World Congress on Psychiatry in Madrid this week learned of the schizophrenia Nobel laureate John Nash of MIT suffered for 15 years. While denying a direct relationship between mathematics and madness, he says great mathematicians suffer from maniacal characteristics, delirium and symptoms of schizophrenia. Why then are maths lectures so boring?
