Floud wins CVCP leadership
Roderick Floud, vice-chancellor of London Guildhall 51国产视频, has won the contest to become the next president of the newly relaunched Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals. Professor Floud beat Essex 51国产视频 vice-chancellor Ivor Crewe by one vote. He will succeed Sir Howard Newby in August and will hold the post for two years.

Hull to make 50 redundancies

Under restructuring proposals, the department of European languages and cultures is to be disbanded and there will be no more intakes to all single honours languages and professional engineering programmes.

A night for stargazing
Venus and the Moon will provide a beautiful display tonight. The evening star will shine close to a thin crescent Moon so that both dominate the southwestern sky as twilight deepens. The best views will come in late twilight when most of the light has gone but the Moon and Venus have not started setting.
