V-cs' boss quits to head education department
The executive director of the Australian vice-chancellors¡¯ committee, Stuart Hamilton, has quit to head the department of education, employment and training in Victoria. The department has a budget of  A$5.8 billion (?2.1 billion) with 3,000 schools, eight universities, 28 tertiary colleges and more than 60,000 employees.

Professor shot dead in laboratory
A 60-year-old chemistry professor has been bludgeoned to death while working at night in his laboratory at Padua 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ in Italy. The body, which has been tentatively identified as Luigi Pasimeni, was dragged to a nearby courtyard and burned.
