Archaeologists and art historians from Cardiff and York universities are to use modern technology to shed new light on the composition of stained glass to help conservation in churches across the world. Researchers in Cardiff's School of History and Archaeology and York's history of art department are taking advantage of a rare opportunity to study York Minster's Great East Window, which is currently being dismantled for cleaning and repair. The researchers will use a scanning electronic microscope to look at corrosion rates of different colours of glass.
