Find of the forest

An international research team including a Cardiff expert has identified some of the Earth's earliest forest trees, dating back 385 million years.

Christopher Berry, of Cardiff's School of Earth, Ocean and Planetary Sciences, was able to identify fossil trunks, uncovered after a flash flood in upstate New York over a century ago, as being of the genus Wattieza , a tree fern-like plant.
