New jobs are starting to emerge from the ?315 million teaching initiative launched by the Higher Education Funding Council for England in January.

The Centres for Excellence in Teaching and Learning Scheme was set up to allow institutions to reward and invest in excellent teaching practice.

Loughborough 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ's Centre for Excellence in the 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ-wide Provision of Mathematics and Statistics Support is advertising four posts in this week's Times Higher .

It is looking for an assistant director, a lecturer, a senior lecturer in statistics and a research fellow in emerging technology.

Gloucestershire 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ is seeking staff for its Environment School's Centre for Active Learning. It is looking for three lecturers or senior lecturers, five postgraduate assistants - who will register for part-time research degrees - and one learning technologist.

These posts cover the fields of geography, environment, biology, landscape architecture, community development and heritage management.

* Reading 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ is advertising six chairs and seven lecturer posts in this week's Times Higher . The chairs are in soil science, modern English literature, classics, fine art, film and medieval history.

Two of the lectureships are in human geography, the others are in classics, film, pharmaceutics, primary science education and real-estate finance.
