A new round of Australian university audits has begun with ten institutions to be audited this year.

Over the next five years, every university and the government higher education department will be subject to quality audits.

David Woodhouse, executive director of the Australian 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ Quality Association, said it would review how universities and government departments conducted their self-monitoring and self-improvement procedures.

The earlier audits, between 1993 and 1995, focused on teaching, research and community service.
