An "outstanding, dedicated and charismatic" social anthropologist was not unfairly dismissed by Edinburgh 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ, an industrial tribunal has ruled, writes Olga Wojtas.

Alan Campbell, who took early retirement on grounds of ill health a year ago, claimed he had been coerced into leaving after being harassed over a long period.

The Edinburgh tribunal said it had seen no evidence that Dr Campbell had been forced into taking early retirement, which he had considered for almost a year. But it was "a great pity" he had left, since he had exceptional intellectual and academic ability, with a fresh and unpretentious approach in his dealings with students.
