Roger Falconer, former professor of water engineering and head of the department of civil engineering at Bradford 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ, has been appointed to the university's first chair in environmental water management. The chair was created jointly by the university and Hyder Consulting.

Nick Hanley, reader in the economics department at the 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Stirling, chair in agricultural resource management; Mark Steel, senior research fellow of the centre for economic research at Tilburg and associate professor in the department of econometrics, chair in economics; Klaus Ebmeier, honorary consultant psychiatrist with Lothian Health Board and senior lecturer, appointed to the second chair in the department of psychiatry.
