The British Library David Inglis, former managing director of Chapman and Hall, has been appointed director of the digital library development project.

51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Central Lancashire Ian Shaw, professor and head of the centre for toxicology, has been appointed to the Government's advisory committee on pesticides. He is already chairman of the working party on pesticide residues.

Society of Antiquaries of Scotland Michael Lynch, Sir William Fraser professor of Scottish history and palaeography at the 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Edinburgh, was elected president of the society on November 30 1996.
