Loud howler time ("Orwell's Oxford paper accused of political bias", March 5). The Oxford 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ student newspaper Cherwell by no means launched the career of George Orwell. Orwell could hardly have contributed to it - he wasn't an Oxford undergraduate, indeed he wasn't an undergraduate at any university.

Evelyn Waugh, however, is a different matter. His writing career did indeed take off in Cherwell . Perhaps somebody misheard Waugh as Orwell? Not too easy a mistake, but there...
