51¹ú²úÊÓƵ

Established in 1974, Hamamatsu 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ School of Medicine is located in Hamamatsu, Shizuoka, Japan (population approximately: 780,000). Its three aims are to train clinicians and researchers, promote original research and the innovation of medical techniques and be instrumental in treating local patients.

The university¡¯s onsite hospital was founded in 1977 and is frequented by many of the local residents from the Shizuoka prefecture. The Fujinokuni Women Doctor Support Centre, which is one of a kind in the region, was recently inaugurated, with the purpose of cultivating more positive working environments for women.

A global demonstration base for IMS (Imaging Mass Spectometry) was introduced in 2016, in order to standardise IMS techniques in 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ, through collaborations with IMS bases in the Germany and the United States.

Its admission policy is highly selective; students must pass all entrance exams and expect their past academic records to be closely scrutinised. Of those who apply, 20-30 per cent are accepted to study.

The campus is based 10.6km from Hamamatsu train station, the equivalent of a 35-minute drive away. Recreational facilities available to students include a swimming pool, martial arts hall, gymnasium, a library and kyudo ground.

The Hamamatsu 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ School of Medicine has welcomed international students from China, Bangladesh, Vietnam and India, as well as setting up exchanges with universities in Korea, Poland, Turkey and Germany.
