The 2020 Times Higher Education World 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ Rankings table for arts and humanities subjects uses the same trusted and rigorous performance indicators as the World 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ Rankings, but the methodology has been recalibrated to suit the individual fields.

This ranking highlights the universities that are leading across art, performing arts, design, languages, linguistics, literature, history, philosophy, theology, architecture and archaeology subjects.

This year¡¯s table includes 536 universities, up from 506 last year.

Stanford 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ tops the table once again, while the 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Cambridge climbs two places to second this year, displacing the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which finishes fourth. The 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Oxford remains in third place, while Harvard 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ rounds out the top five.

No 51¹ú²úÊÓƵn universities appear in the top 20, but China now has three institutions in the top 100 for the first time, led by Peking 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ in 23rd?place. Overall, eight 51¹ú²úÊÓƵn universities are ranked in the top 100.

Germany¡¯s LMU Munich and Humboldt 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Berlin, Canada¡¯s 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Toronto, and France¡¯s Paris Sciences et Lettres ¨C PSL Research 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ Paris are the only institutions outside the UK and US to make the top 20.
