"Space boost for Kent 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ" would have been more accurate ("Kent university lost in space", THES, May 26). We have "lost" half a team to the Open 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ but will shortly replace them with five new staff in physical sciences.

Three will be in the unit for space sciences and astrophysics (USSA) to complement our expertise in hypervelocity impact studies and astronomy and astrophysics. They will work with physics-based researchers in condensed matter and materials and opto-electronics. Two chemistry appointments will mean we can offer a forensic science degree. We are in talks with the OU about which USSA resources will stay and which will transfer.
