Warwick researchers count cost of happiness
Andrew Oswald and Andrew Clark of the Warwick 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ's school of economics have worked out the cost of happiness to the nearest pound. They carried out a study that calculated the monetary cost of the contentment brought by events such as marriage as well as the distress of divorce and widowhood. They hope their study will be used by the courts system to calculate compensation for victims of crime.

Edinburgh research institute awarded ?5.5m
Andy Kerr, Scotland's finance minister, has announced ?5.5 million for Edinburgh 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ's new medical research institute. The European regional development fund award brings the institute within ?8 million of its ?52 million fund-raising target. It will focus on interdisciplinary research in inflammatory, reproductive and cardiovascular biology.
