This year's THES /Oxford 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ Press science writing prize was won by Richard Hayward, paediatric neurosurgery consultant at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. His winning entry appears in this week's Features section. He wins ?2,000 and the Oxford English Dictionary on CD-Rom.

Second prize, the OED in 20 volumes, was won by Lewis Dartnell for Language and the Book of Life. He begins work on his PhD this month at 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ College London. Third prize, ?200 worth of OUP books, went to Yfke van Bergen of St John's College, Cambridge, for Small Brains, Big Intellect: Why Fish are Smarter than You Think.
