Students in Australia are to be hit by a compulsory annual amenity fee of up to A$250 (?107) to pay for better campus services in health, counselling, sport and advocacy. The scheme, announced by Kate Ellis, the Youth Minister, will be supported by special loans to help students pay the fee. Ms Ellis told Melbourne's Herald Sun that the extra income would fill a hole left by A$170 million (?72.7 million) of cuts overseen by the previous government.
