This table [see link to table below] shows the world's most productive non-university institutions in the social sciences. It covers institutions with more than 5,000 papers in the Thomson Scientific Essential Science Indicators database between 1995 and 2005.

It suggests that social scientists working on health issues are big producers of cited papers. Also productive are researchers trying to crack major world, US or European economic problems. However, many of the papers attributed to the Centre for Economic Policy Research in London are written by authors who also have a university affiliation.

This table also shows that the Russian Academy of Sciences social scientists are producing valuable work in trying circumstances.
