On April 29 1952 Her Majesty The Queen granted a charter, and Article 1 of this charter states: "There shall be and there is hereby constituted and founded in Our said Town and County of Southampton a 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ by the name and style of 'The 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Southampton' ".
