International players have joined the campaign to save the Royal Greenwich Observatory at Cambridge. Keiichi Kodaira, director general of the National Astronomical Observatory in Japan, said in a letter to Astronomer Royal Sir Martin Rees that the "closure of the RGO would mean a great loss not only for the UK, but for the world scientific community".
