A common genetic variation is linked to a substantial increase in the risk of heart attacks, US researchers have found. The team at Emory 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ's School of Medicine, Duke 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ and the 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Pennsylvania found the gene variation was present in 21 per cent of heart attack victims and 31 per cent of early onset cases. Just over a fifth of people of European decent carry a copy of the genetic variation from each parent.
