A US university has denied Coca-Cola the chance to bid for its upcoming soft drinks contract after concerns about the company's business practices in Colombia and India. In a letter to Coca-Cola explaining the decision, Carol T. Christ, president of Smith College, Massachusetts, said:
"As a private college with a public conscience, Smith College takes issues of human rights and environmental sustainability very seriously." The company said the allegations were based on rumour and myth.
