The French Government is setting up advanced research networks as part of its effort to increase the quality and international visibility of the country's science.
Dominique de Villepin, the Prime Minister, and Fran?ois Goulard, the Research Minister, last week announced the first 13 thematic networks of advanced research (RTRAs) - centres of excellence formed from partnerships between universities, grandes ¨¦coles and research organisations.
The RTRAs are one of the measures contained in the Pact for Research reform introduced in April. They will receive extra government funding totalling €200 million (?135 million).
