Five members of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals have been elected to its council. Ken Edwards, vice-chancellor of Leicester 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ, Peter Knight, vice-chancellor of the 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of Central England and James Wright, vice-chancellor of Newcastle 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ have been re-elected. Newly elected are Sir John Kingman, vice-chancellor of Bristol 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ and Geoffrey Copland, vice-chancellor of Westminster 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ. Maxwell Irvine, vice-chancellor of Birmingham 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ, and Sir Stewart Sutherland, vice-chancellor of Edinburgh 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ, are to stand down.
