A performance artist who had a "third ear" surgically implanted in his arm has won a prize for excellence in the field of digital and electronic art. Stelios Arcadiou, known as Stelarc, a visiting professor at Brunel 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ, had the cell-cultivated organ implanted under the skin on his forearm. He aims to use a miniature microphone to broadcast what it "hears" via the internet. The Australian artist, who is Brunel's chair in performance art, was awarded €10,000 (?8,400) as winner of a Golden Nica for Hybrid Art in the Prix Ars Electronica 2010.
