The British Museum has launched Compass Online, a website that provides access to its collections. Currently, 1,200 images of artefacts can be called up, each supported by information from the museum's curators, and all fully downloadable by users. By the end of the year, the British Museum intends to have 4,000 objects available on screen at the touch of a button.
Suzanna Taverne, the museum's managing director, said: "Every object included is described in expert detail and the images are of the highest quality. Compass will also benefit visitors by helping them navigate around the museum."
