Three London universities have appointed new vice-chancellors.

Malcolm Gillies is joining City 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ from the Australian National 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ. Professor Gillies, who is based principally in the US at Yale 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ, will take up the post in London in August.

The 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ of East London has appointed Martin Everett, currently pro vice-chancellor at Westminster 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ and director of the university's research strategy. He will join the UEL in April.

Peter John, deputy vice-chancellor at Plymouth 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ, will become vice-chancellor of Thames Valley 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ this summer. He will join in July.

Meanwhile, Plymouth's other deputy vice-chancellor, Mark Cleary, has been appointed acting vice-chancellor with immediate effect, after the death of vice-chancellor Roland Levinsky. However, Professor Cleary will leave Plymouth in May to become vice-chancellor of Bradford 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ.
