As a lifelong Marxist, I welcome moves to allocate research funding on the basis of the economic impact of the work carried out. Since the ultimate aim of all my work is to help in the struggle to cause the collapse of capitalism I can state with confidence that its economic impact is, in theory anyway, unlimited.
