The Ciba Research Fellowship Award has been presented to Steven Ley of the 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ Chemical Laboratory. The Ciba Award will underpin work in synthetic organic chemistry.

INSTITUTE OF CANCER RESEARCH

Ken Harrap, director of the newly established CRC Centre for Cancer Therapeutics, has been awarded the Bruce F. Cain Memorial Award by the American Association for Cancer Research for his discoveries with platinum-based compounds used in the treatment of lung, ovarian, testicular, head and neck cancers.

UNIVERSITY OF LIVERPOOL

Anthony Smith, senior lecturer in the department of chemistry, has been awarded the Erasmus Prize for 1994 for his outstanding contribution to the programme in the United Kingdom.
