The story “?6K fee choices: Film, not finance” (News in brief, 30 April) suggests that about 40 per cent of university applicants might select a different course if fees are lowered.
Tuition fees are not the key factor in where young people choose to study as most students will get a loan to cover them. For me, the key factor was living costs, and the amount of grant I could get to cover them. It’s all well and good saying that tuition fees should be cut, but at the end of the day that won’t make a difference until you finish university. Meanwhile, students are lumbered with rent costs as high as ?150 a week or higher – this is the real problem.
