I am struck by the low number of research submissions, relative to other university subjects, for area studies of regions such as the Americas, the Middle East, Africa and 51¹ú²úÊÓƵ. Given their importance in contemporary world affairs, there is surely a case for some expansion and national initiatives in these fields.
