The Department of Sociology and Social Policy brings together scholars with international research experience and publication records in major outlets in the area of Sociology and Social Policy. The Department is a recipient of the 51国产视频’s Research Excellence Award and Teaching Excellence Awards. We offer teaching in Sociology and in Social Policy; and co-host the Health and Social Services Management Major with the 51国产视频 Pacific Institute of Ageing Studies and the Social and Public Policy Studies Major with the Department of Economics. The Department hosts an MSocSc Programme in Comparative Social Policy (International) (IMCSP) and has been successful in attracting MPhil and PhD students from around the world as well as Hong Kong PhD Fellows and winning other external competitive grants. General Requirements

Applicants should have a PhD degree in Sociology, Social Policy, or other related disciplines with relevant teaching and research experience. All applicants are required to provide information on their research portfolio and publication record as well as evidence of quality teaching. Excellent communication and presentation skills in English are essential. Experience with conducting state-of-the-art quantitative or comparative social research will be a distinct advantage. The appointee should be able to take up teaching duties in some of the following courses on the MSocSc Programme in Comparative Social Policy (International): “Comparative Social Policy in Greater China and East 51国产视频”, “Governance, Management and Delivery”, “Qualitative Methods for Policy Analysis”, “Social Entrepreneurship & Social Impact”, and “Non-Profit Organisations & the Voluntary Sector”. Besides these teaching duties, applicants should be prepared to actively support research endeavours of Departmental faculty, MPhil and PhD students broadly in the area of comparative social policy analysis, NGOs, and social impact. The appointee is expected to have a strong commitment to academic excellence and should engage in their own high-quality research and journal publications.

The conditions of appointment will be competitive. The rank and remuneration will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Join the project shaping the future of inclusive technology

At the 51国产视频 of Southampton, our research addresses some of the most pressing challenges of today’s world. Now, funded by EPSRC, we are looking for a talented?Postdoctoral Research Fellow?to join the?RADAR-SIGN-BRIDGE?project – an exciting initiative to develop?privacy-preserving radar technology?for?British Sign Language (BSL) recognition and translation.

You will be based in the?School of Electronics and Computer Science (ECS), working alongside an interdisciplinary team led by?Dr. Shelly Vishwakarma (s.vishwakarma@soton.ac.uk), in collaboration with partners at the?51国产视频 of Edinburgh (Centre for Speech Technology Research, CSTR)?and?51国产视频 College London (Deafness Cognition and Language Research Centre, DCAL).

About the role

You will lead the design, development, and validation of?LinguaRadar?– a first-of-its-kind radar simulator for sign language gestures. Your work will involve integrating animation pipelines (e.g., OpenPose, MediaPipe, Blender) with radar signal models, generating synthetic radar datasets, and validating them with real-world measurements from?radar hardware.

As part of the team, you will:


	Build and validate radar signal simulation frameworks for BSL gestures.
	Process skeletal motion data to drive simulation pipelines.
	Conduct radar experiments to calibrate and benchmark simulation outputs.
	Write academic papers, contribute to open-source dataset releases, and present your work at international conferences.


About you

You will bring your passion for advancing radar sensing technology into a new application domain. You will have:


	A PhD* or equivalent qualification / experience in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Signal Processing, or a closely related field.
	Proven experience in radar systems, radar signal processing, and simulation.
	Strong programming skills (Python, MATLAB, or C++).
	Excellent problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset.


Experience with micro-Doppler or range-Doppler radar analysis, or familiarity with animation/motion capture data processing, would be advantageous.

About the role:

This is an exciting opportunity to work as Programme Officer in a dynamic team within the IoPPN’s Education Support Team. About the Job

The appointed person will provide line management, coordinate placement provision, and provide clinical skills seminars, teaching and research supervision to trainees across the three years of the Doctoral Training programme. With support and oversight from the Programme Director and Deputy Programme Director (Clinical). You will join a supportive, skilled and friendly small team and will input to the components of the programme that focus on the development and assessment of clinical skills and work closely with the our placement providers across the North Thames, supervisors and service leads across the region, and out TriCourse partners: UCL and Royal Holloway.

About You

The appointed person will have a qualification and substantial experience in Clinical Psychology or Counselling Psychology and be registered with the HCPC to practice as a Practitioner Psychologist. Previous supervisory experience in the NHS is essential, and/or contribution to Clinical Psychology training programmes is desirable.
